Beware of the Gorean
“The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” — Oscar Wilde
This is a subject that has been raised time and time again within different circles of people. People gossip, spread rumours that have little, if any substance of truth in them. Over the years, I have been the centre of several attacks and ignorant rumours that have been both amusing and unsettling to hear.
“What some invent, the rest enlarge.” — Jonathan Swift
I remember in the early 1990’s when My wife and I first explored the possibilities of being more open within some kink circles of people. We had gone to a couple of parties, and it was known that we were Gorean. I had several people approach Me to advise Me it would be better not to mention that to people. I was astounded that for a group to promote “Your kink is not My kink, but is okay“; that the sheer ignorance of what the Gorean philosophy encompasses would be considered so threatening to them. Our presence caused paranoia and lots of stares and whispering. All they knew was based on rumours and gossip. None was based on facts or even asking what it was about.
“Gossip is always a personal confession either of malice or imbecility.” — Josiah Gilbert Halland
Over the past several years, there have been many rumours that have been started, (usually by some ‘leaders’). Some of the classics include someone dying during a waterbondage scene and needing to be resuscitated. Another was a fictitious 911 call being made during another scene. Then there was the absurd one about choking a girl at a munch then fucking her in the women’s bathroom. Many heard of these rumours, many more ran with it and spread it as fact; but none took the time to simply ask questions to any that supposedly were involved. “He is Gorean – so it must be true” was what regularly was mentioned after the fact. Again ignorance and deceit.
“Truth is not exciting enough to those who depend on the characters and lives of their neighbors for all their amusement.” — George Bancroft
One of the positives of being the centre of gossip and accusations, is that when we attend a party or gathering; people move out of the way and we are not bothered with the crowds. This has always been a good thing, especially regarding locking up an area of seats, having a crowd watch our exhibitionist scenes, or having them advertise any events we are doing. We act differently, we play differently, and we are different.
“Even doubtful accusations leave a stain behind them.” —Thomas Fuller
Some of the biggest disappointments have been people that I have invested time, energy and monies on when faced with peer pressure and showed a quality or state of being pusillanimous; the vice of being timid and cowardly, and thus not living up to one’s full potential. Several friendships were lost and people I no longer respect and am disappointed to have known.
“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.
In closing, before making any judgments; maybe consider asking questions, observing and having an open mind. Just My two cents worth….
